Spotlight on: Nathan Surcaston

Full Name: Nathan Orion Surcaston
Birthday: June 13, 1992
Method of Creation: #2- A total homage to someone I know.

Creation Story:

Anyone who knows me knows that I have the ability to sense people's auras. Some are more strong than others, because it is a gift they have been given. Examples are peace, love, energy, and the power to do good. It was this awareness of auras I felt from one of my friends that led to the discovery of Terabi Tana.

It isn't often, but certainly more common than totally unlikely, but I will meet someone who has an overwhelmingly powerful aura. I can't really explain it. Along my walks of life I met someone with a very large aura of love and peace. I was drawn to this person and could not ignore those strong feelings so I bottled it up into a new person. Just my thing to do! I started formulating this person and he quickly gained shape. He started out as a very timid and softspoken young man but who had such a strong sense of compassion that he was always doing things for other people, anonymously. Whether it was leaving a note of courage in someone's locker or bringing a meal to someone in need, this person was all about service.

I decided to be really daring and give him a name and traits very similar to who he's based off of. In fact he is probably the closest to a carbon copy I have done. That's not to say that he is, but he is certainly closer than anyone else. His name is very close- his first name the same and his last name starting with the same letter. I actually found the last name Surcaston by searching my random archives I have of names. I stumbled across an Aries Surcaston but on the way to transferring it to Nathan I got it mixed up with Orion which was all right with me. I gave him a similar appearance- same hair, eyes, and smile, but with a twist, since he had a personality of his own. He even plays the same instrument.

However as I thought about him I realized that very timid was not the direction he was going. He was still softspoken but confident. Nathan still had his moments of shyness but he delighted in meeting and talking to everyone he possibly could. Like I said, his favorite thing to do was to both anonymously and personally do acts of service and kindness for others. As I thought about it, I realized that it sounded very much like he had Terabi Tana. I originally stayed away from it, because everyone I had written like him had it, but then I had a dream that he did, so that settled that in a hurry! This makes his aura of peace and love even stronger and identifiable.

His story from when I realized him starts with quite a bang. He and his father, Gordon, were driving from their home in Sunway (a couple of cities east of Pathreeah) towards Kennywood for whatever business when they were hit head on by another car. This left Gordon with a broken leg and two broken arms among other things and Nathan with two broken legs, a broken right arm, and several deep cuts all over his forehead, face, and right eye. Through his foggy haze, having sustained a concussion, all Nathan could say was "My father! Is he all right!" The driver of the other car, despite a broken arm and leg, was able to pull both of them from the wrecked car and the three of them lived.

Nathan of course had to undergo several surgeries to get sewn back into shape but never lost his will to serve. Even though his right eye was swollen shut for a week, his legs full of pins and rods, and with only the use of his left arm, he still drew pictures on a whiteboard cheering up the hospital staff and always had a calm smile on his face. He was so used to visiting others in hospitals but now it was his turn. Many visited him and after a couple weeks he was finally on the road to walking again. This he did fairly quickly and he was fully recovered by the time his senior year started (the accident was in June of 2009).

After I realized that he did indeed have Terabi Tana, I had to decide what his weapon of Lovelight was. Most have a scimitar or a sword, much fewer have a two-handed sword, and even fewer still have a bow and shoot arrows by plucking the string. After thinking I was impressed that Nathan was in fact one with a bow. He is proving to be very unique.

I am so excited to see how Nathan grows as he attends college at KU. I want to maybe write stories of him helping people and things like that and it will be fun to see him grow as a musician. :)

Five Facts:

1. He is the oldest of 5- Cohen, Caitlin, Jason, and Erin are the others.
2. He is left-handed, like most of my peeps. :D
3. He plays the Horn. :)
4. He always, always, always has a twinkle in his eye.
5. His favorite color is blue.
