A Narrative

It was a boring Monday evening. Jeffrey had arrived at work and was all dressed up in his work clothes. He was excited, for this day he got to ride in the ambulance with Clark and together they chatted and had a few laughs as Thomas drove through their patrol area. Just then, Thomas shouted back at them: "We got a call, hold on tight, we're heading to Feyar School. Broken leg."

The ambulance picked up speed and Jeffrey looked out the window with that furrowed brow that he was famous for. His dark blue eyes shone as cars flew past and he felt joy in his heart as he noticed the rain beginning to fall. Soon they arrived and were flagged down by the teacher who had called for them. Jeffrey and Clark got out and walked over to the man, who explained to them that one of his students, a 17-year-old girl, had fallen down the basement steps and broken her leg, unable to get up and hobble out. Jeffrey's eyes glowed briefly as he saw the exact scene being described to him and looked at Clark and then the man and said, "Don't worry, I got this."

He was led down the old stairs and then down another flight. He could smell the stale smell of old gym equipment and damp water and hear the sound of water dripping through the exposed pipes. There, at the bottom, was the young lady laying down. She looked to be athletic but the type who was quite studious. As she saw him she sat up slightly and said "My leg... my right leg is broken!" She was visibly in pain and weak from it but was quite composed. Jeffrey carefully looked at her leg and even in the dim lights he could see crystal clear that her ankle was swelling rapidly and her leg was off. He got down on his knees and took her hand saying, "My name is Jeffrey and I am here to get you out. I am going to carry you up the stairs so hold on tight."

With that he gingerly scooped her up in his arms and without a second thought began to climb the stairs. The girl was very impressed at the effortless nature he had, for he was just 5'7'' with an average build and here he was singlehandedly carrying her up the stairs without even losing his breath.

"Wow... How are you carrying me?" she asked.

With his trademark furrowed brow and facial expression his eyes softened and he looked at her and replied, "I am a Man of Osai."

To his astonishment her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. He became aware that she knew a thing or two about the Men of Osai, which was further confirmed when she asked, "Are you... Oja Diamond?"

Jeffrey smiled and replied in his whispery growling voice, "No... Go one down on the list..."

With the remaining energy she had, she weakly but with amazement exclaimed, "...Jeffrey Peak??"

"That's the one," he replied with his dark version of a smile, "now let's get you into this bed and have the doctors fix that leg of yours." }:-|
