Osai Spotlight: Tano Sobato

Full Name: Tano Visa Sobato
Birthday: May 14, 1923
Nationality: Catin
Birth City: Das Varhin, Catarika
Bloodline: Res
Current City: Tomur, Catarika
Title: Neurosurgeon

Fast Facts:
  • Tano is the oldest of 3. He was born to Marel Sobato and Maia Kaltur. His siblings are Zavian Sobato (1926-1936) and Kenton Sobato (1929).
  • He was going to be named something completely different but upon his birth his dark and powerful aura was so strongly present that they named him Tano Visa instead, meaning "Power Seen."
  • His younger brother had several neurological issues which inspired Tano from a very young age to go into medicine.
  • Like Stanton Bridger, he became well known for his ability to see into the future. First it was just little things but as he got older it became apparent that this was a true ability and a great gift.
  • He stayed up every night to watch over Zavian and seemed to be totally in tune with him.
  • His father, who went back to college to become a doctor so he could care for his son, had to take a history class, where Osai was mentioned and studied. As Osai Naori was described, he recounted that he quite literally "heard my son being described, word for word." The feeling was so strong that he had this gift that he got home and arranged to meet with the Aikada who was happy to meet with them.
  • Tano had just turned 9 years old at this time and was excited to meet with the Aikada. The whole way up he told his dad that he saw many things and knew when things were going to happen. As he described them in greater detail his father just knew in his heart he had Osai Naori. As soon as the Aikada saw them he knew that Tano was one of them. He called forth the mark which glowed brightly and as Tano realized what he had, the voice of Osai filled him, telling him to use his gift to change the lives of millions of people.
  • With his confirmed gift, he was added to the list of Men of Osai and became the 10th Man of Osai of the time in 1932.
  • He didn't meet the other Osanokai until about 1940, when he felt confident enough to brave the trains to go to Rihanu. Once there he met most of them during the big gathering that took place every 5 years.
  • Auhari Res is his pair and from the day they met they stayed in contact daily.
  • He went to Nialli Medical University after he graduated from high school in 1941. Auhari was still attending the school for his higher degrees and they lived in adjacent apartments.
  • He met his wife, the lady of his visions, in 1942. They were in an anatomy class together and were right next to each other. Tano Sobato and Nessa Jantos were married in 1944.
  • They had 2 children- Eric Sobato (1960) and Johanna Tigal (1962). They were much older parents because they wanted to be out of college and well into a routine first. They loved raising their children and never missed an event.
  • Tano graduated from NMU with a degree in Neurosurgery and moved to Tomur, a city close to Nialli, where he began working at the National Clinic of Neurology in 1954.
  • His son Eric followed in his footsteps and also became a neurosurgeon, moving to Kiillaana to work at C of A. His daughter Johanna became a neurologist at NCN. To add to the medical realm, Tano's wife is a professor at NMU!
  • He is famous for his quick thinking, calm manner, witty humor, and the way he talks to his patients with love as if they were his brother.
  • He has published countless articles and has opened up many new fields of research.
  • At 87, he is the oldest doctor at the hospital. He says he plans to continue to work until Osai says he can return home.
  • He rarely leaves Tomur, but does go away for 2 weeks each summer to travel around the country and every few years to Kiillaana as well to visit his son as well as the Osanokai that live nearby.

A Short Description

Tano is a very typical Catin with his intense, brown, catlike eyes hidden beneath a furrowed brow. He has an etched frown which adds to his apparent serious nature, and he is very quiet as he does his work of reading scans and tests. As he silently walks into the office, however, he mumbles a witty pun and then, with his face totally lighting up, starts laughing. His coworkers all love him and look up to him in so many ways. While he appears as a definite Man of Osai, he is truly friendly and funny underneath that layer of inherent darkness he has a truly loving heart and does his job with a passion few can fully understand. Even though his brother lived to be only 10 years old, he talks about him often and always says "da" (is), never "datta" (was). He also talks about his other brother often as well and loves when he comes by to visit him at the hospital to talk about his day. He too went into the field of medicine and is a nurse who works at a group home in Nialli.

Tano is definitely one of a kind and is one that will never be forgotten.
